diy garden hose holder. a simple solution to a longtime problem.

Here is my simple diy solution for keeping the garden hose
neat and tidy.

For over 20 years this is how the garden hose looked.
We have a brick house and I have never wanted to mount a
hose holder to the wall.

But the hose was always in the way.
And now that we are older, it is a tripping hazard too.

So i took one of my vintage garden tools, drilled two holes in it.

And mounted it to a table that is next to the outdoor faucet.

Easy peasy.

Now the hose is off the ground and ready to use.

easy gardening tips here! plants that look great in late summer.

To keep things simple, I use the same plants in the flower boxes
on both sides of my potting shed.

Both sides are in partial shade so I have used mostly colorful foliage.
I love lime green.  Both potato vine and licorice plant are good choices for me.

While I love "flowering" plants as much as the next gardener, I have found that
by late summer they start looking pretty pathetic in my partial shade garden.

So for the last couple of years I have made gardening easier and more rewarding
by concentrating on nice looking foliage plants.

In the front planter I usually plant colorful coleus, but this year, the wet early spring
rotted most of them so I transplanted Tri-color Japanese Painted Fern
from the backyard into the box to fill in the blank spots.

I think they look spectacular with the surviving Lace Stocking coleus.

These coleus did much better.  I am sorry I do not remember their name.

And look great next to the front door in an old, antique urn.

A couple of years ago I started transplanting some of my extra ajuga from the
backyard to the edge of the front walkway.

The are filling in nicely.  Very low maintenance and they look nice with
the cotoneasters behind them.

By the back garage door, the Lace Stocking coleus did much better than in the front planter.

I don't remember the name of those coleus either.  I didn't even transplant them
into the urns by our French doors.
They are in their original plastic pots.

I hope my container plantings give you some ideas for your own garden.
