The Keys To Your Castle

I love the trend of wearing JUNK as jewelry!

I have had a spool of "ball chain" for about a year, and recently I found out that it is easy to find the end fasteners...

So I have a ton of JUNK to make into jewelry...starting with these old Estate Sale skeleton keys...Oh, so fun for Halloween!

Is this a trend that you like or don't like? Let us know what you think.

  2. OMG! Joan! I love this idea, and it's so simple. I love those old keys, and I've got a few of those ball chain necklaces. And I like the idea of adding to it. But I can't think of what else to put on one. YOU are the idea girl. What else?!

  4. Hi Joan. I have a key necklace just like these. Love it! I got to see your goodies, briefly at the show. It was pretty funny because I walked in, saw your snowmen and said, "these are Joan's, aren't they?" Wow. What a small world it felt like. Fun stuff! ~Mindy

  5. eeeeek. I've got a "key" chain also! Mine aren't on ballchain though and ya know? I kinda like the ballchain, whereas normally I don't. It just seems to fit.
    Okay. I want this.

  6. Hey Joan! You KNOW that I love junk jewelry....I have been wearing keys on my ears for years now!! (I know, not at work with my business suits!)
Junk jewelry bracelets are my favorites but I could see your necklaces really catching on with our crowd! Have a great night!

  9. Cool idea! I love the ball chain necklaces. Reminds me of wearing a key around my neck for my roller skates.

  12. It's a great look. I won a soldered pendant a while ago and it came with that kind of chain. At first I wondered why but then as I looked around more at them I realized everyone was using them.
    YOu'll sell a ton I'm sure!

  18. Yep ... love this idea ;-)

Was great fun to catch up on your blog. I've been really busy (okay ... and was on holiday) so I missed almost all of what happened last September.

Anyways ... saw your Black Friday post and decided to join in the fun. Black vintage is just so up my alley!!!

    Big hug,

  20. They look cool, but I wouldn't recommend wearing dozens of them at the same time, because they must be heavy!

  23. Hey Missy,
Long time no hear... I have been working non stop forever! I know what you mean about the camera, and to think, a year ago this time, I couldn't turn on the computer, and I still catch myself holding the camera up to my eye...
    Amazing...
    Good to hear from you!

  24. I love old keys! Not junk! I have purchased old keys on ebay because I love the way they look with no intention of doing anything at all with them :)

    Happy VTT!

  25. Lovc all those keys on the dress form...very very cool. I am not a jewelry designer but I love what the designers are doing with all the "junk" stuff. I will continue to collect the junk to sell and let the designers do their fabulous things. I bought a bunch of old wood bingo markers this weekend. They would look great on a necklace I think. xo

  26. Great idea. Every door in my house has one of those keys but we don't use them. I should make a necklace to display them!

  28. I've never been a jewelry-wearer, but I can see lots of young folks enjoying those key necklaces---even several at a time. Keys have a mystery to them, especially the old rusty ones with a history or a shady past.

  38. My 20 yr old daughter wears a skeleton key on a polka dot ribbon as a necklace...it looks good with everything! I have three very old watches that were my Grandmas-they don't work anymore so I set them to the times that my children were born, I need to figure out a way to add some length to them though-apparently Grandma had tiny wrists!
