Halloween Love Potion Bottles~ A Tutorial

I had a little itch to make something for Halloween this morning, and I was thinking about love... ah, love, sweet love ...

I had taken down my rolled paperback book wreath from the front door. I had just found some bottles at an Estate Sale so a project was born.

This bottle with the cork top was perfect.



First I ripped the paperback book rolls off the wreath... not very carefully and filled the bottle. (As you can see, or not see, you really don't even need to have anything in the bottle.)

Next I hunted up some witches on the internet, printed them and added a label "Ancient Witch Spells for Love Potions" and "Drink Up, My Pretty!"




Then I used my distress ink pads to "Dirty Up" the label and scrunched it up into a ball. Flattened it out again and glued the label onto the bottle with a glue stick.




We're almost through. I took some stained material I had down in the dungeon and dirtied it up more, glued it on the top and bottom. Tied a another dirty piece around the top to finish it off.




Now comes the really fun part. I lit a candle and dripped it all over everything. I loved that part. But you might be able to see that I accidentally lit the fabric on fire. Oops!

Reminded me of why we shouldn't play with fire! Be careful!

Another Ridiculously Easy Photo Holder

Anyone who has been reading my blog for awhile knows I love making photo/picture holders out of ordinary things. Today I am using some old door knobs that I had hanging around in the studio {basement}.

I used the set-screw hole to thread the wire though before wrapping it around the knob.



If you need a wire wrapping tutorial or a refresher course hop on over to this post. Other than that it is pretty easy.



I was getting ready for a show ~ and I didn't have photos handy ~ so I used my price tags to show you were the photos go.

Only thing to remember is to use flat bottomed door knobs so that your picture/photo holders stand up straight.

Another Easy Picture Holder

First the backstory: Almost a month ago one of my flea market friends gave me these little spice bottles. At the time I didn't know what I was going to do with them ~ then the "a ha" moment ~ Of course, I'll make some MORE picture holders for the flea market I'll be doing this weekend.

Anyone who follows my blog knows I have a BIG thing for unique "do-it=yourself" picture holders.



First, I filled the bottles with old book scraps. I like how they look FILLED better than empty.



Next, I took my scraps of pictures, books, and writing; and covered the outsides. I wanted a scientific look...you could do any style you like.



I gathered up my supplies including old buttons and wire.



I got out my wire cutters and round-nose pliers to cut and bend wire.



If you go to my last photo holder tutorial, you can see my technique for bending and attaching the wire.

I added buttons and embellishments, and finally...

I made little pictures to display with the bottles, but you could display whatever you want ~ business cards, photos, wedding table numbers, place cards ~ anything you want!

Another Ridiculously Easy Photo Holder

Difficulty Level: RE,NK {Ridiculously Easy, No Kidding}



You may have some of these in your garage or left over from when you collected garden antiques.



You may have some of these ~ either your own ancestors, or some borrowed ancestors.



You'll need some wire. Here I am using 19 gauge dark annealed steel wire (available at your local hardware store).

You can use other wire. I just like this weight, and the fact that it is black.

You'll need wire cutters and a pen...I like Sharpies..they are just the right diameter.




Cut your wire into 9 inch lengths and wrap one end around your sharpie tightly 3 or 4 times.



Then wrap the rest of the wire around your hose nozzle from top to bottom, cut off excess.



Stick photo in the tightly coiled end.

Here comes the creative part.
What do you have that you want to display...
placecards, love notes, kids' photos, to do lists....

and what other heavy things do you have that you could wrap wire around....other garden tools, old printer's blocks, silverware.......???????
