Welcome! Here are some very BLUE and white things for your viewing pleasure.
Recently I stopped at one of my favorite thrift shops on half price day, and look what I found.
These 7 pieces of old blue and white graniteware.
I had to buy them for old time's sake.
I have been selling antiques for so long that I remember when graniteware was HOT! HOT! HOT!
And now it's NOT! NOT! NOT! {But maybe I can spark a revival among my readers with this post.}
Blue and white was the HOTTEST color combination of all.
And these pieces NOW were so much cheaper than when blue and white graniteware graced the cover of Country Living Magazine! I wonder how long ago that was?
I paid less for all these than one item would have cost back when they were, you know, HOT! HOT! HOT!
I don't have any blue and white granite ware, but I do remember how popular it once was. I really like it, whether it's in or out.
ReplyDeletewell i may be too young to remember when it was "hot" but i think what you have here is totally cute! :D
ReplyDeleteWOW! If that is vintage/antique you have a gold mine sitting there. Good buy, nice looking set. TTFN ~ Marydon
ReplyDeleteMost antiques are no longer hot.
ReplyDeleteHEY JOAN, THANKS FOR THE WELCOME HOME! I HAD TO LAUGH AT YOUR PHOTOS OF ROSEMONT FLEA! THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT AN ENGLISH CAR BOOT SALE IS LIKE. MOST THINGS ARE ON THE GROUND OR PLOPPED ON TOP OF SAGGING ( AND I DO MEAN SAGGING,) PORTABLE TABLES WITH THIN PLYWOOD TOPS. AT LEAST OUR CHEAP PLASTIC TOPPED PORTABLE TABLES LAST LONGER. SEE YA
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you got the graniteware at a thrift store! I hadn't realized that it had gone down in value, but I guess people aren't into that type of thing anymore. Great find!
ReplyDeleteooooohhhh i LOVE it what a fabulous find!!!..i've collected a bit of enamel ware over the years :)
ReplyDeleteIt's so out it's in!
ReplyDeleteWell I know one person who would LOVE it...my friend Laura....but she probably has tons of it. Funny how treads change. Didn't they use to call any painted blue furniture...money blue? or something like that???
ReplyDeleteLove the last post too!!!!
Carole
LOVE...love the blue & white granite ware...at a thrift shop??!!! I've been collecting enameled pieces forever...don't care if they're hot or not. I only have 1 piece of the blue & white...a large wash basin that I found years ago at a yard sale, and paid the "exorbitant" price, at that time, of $5!! It's been hanging on my porch all this time, and I still love it! Who decides what' hot & what's not, anyway? :o} *elaine*
ReplyDeleteeven if its not hot hot hot now...its still very pretty
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm too young to remember when enamel was hot...I do remember my grandparents having several pieces, though! Kinda makes you dizzy with all the pieces together! Haha...I love the tea kettle the most!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
Blue and white is always HOT at my house! I could never afford it when it was in demand! I sure will keep my eye out for it now if the prices have gone down!!
ReplyDeleteyou know, blue and white in home decor is hot right now! i see all sorts of designs in magazines and catalogs featuring blue/white comforters, chair pads, etc. so, maybe you will have more interest than you think? found some great antiques while in vermont. their shops up there are so different from ours down here...
ReplyDeleteBlue & white is still hot but getting it now will give you more cash later, since everything comes back. I have a few pieces that I used as inspiration to decorate sugar cookies this way!!!
ReplyDeleteHey Missy,
ReplyDeleteFunny you should say that, I just finished my blog for the day, and one of my favorite finds was the beautiful moss that grows in the woods of North Carolina... I love anything mossy, it has been my trademark for years...I wish I could scoop it all up, and take it home, I'd use it like carpet,if I could...
I know, I'm weird...

I like most blue and white wares, and this graniteware reminds me of what we used in my childhood.
ReplyDeleteI was never a collector, but I have a friend who was like a dog after a bone for her graniteware. I do love the blue/white combo in so may ways.
ReplyDeleteI love granite ware and I think blue and white is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I love th ecolor patterns. Hot or not, it'd be a keeper in my book! Sweet deal! Thanks for linking up to Thrifty Thursday in Bloggeritaville

ReplyDeleteI never see blue and white graniteware around here in western Pa. I would snap it up just like you did if I ever do see it. It's wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHappy VTT

Hold on to them, it will be hot again at some point! Even if it's not, I still love it.

I collect McCoy pottery and that took a real nosedive just about the time I had a nice big collection. I thought I'd thin it out a bit and it's hardly worth selling. I use almost every piece, so it's worth keeping for me. I wish things didn't get the Hot or Not label because a lot of things I still really like are on the NOT list LOL
ReplyDeleteAll I know is I LOVE LOVE LOVE! Blue & white for me ... yes please!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the blue and white. I went to an estate sale a few months back, the had LOTS of granite ware, and believe me, it was pricey. And most of it sold for the high prices....it may still be HOT, HoT, HOT!! If it was not, then I wish someone would have told the people that at the sale, I wanted several items, but were out of my budget!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great VTT and a wonderful weekend.
I still like them. I don't have any, but I do like them. :)
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny how things go in and out of vogue with no particular rhyme or reason?
Love Blue And White! If it is something YOU love, it just doesn't matter, does it, whether it happens to be the latest and greatest in the ever changing circle of fads and fashion...
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing.
Cute! Cute! Cute! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteVery nice collection. I go after the gray spatterware myself - the color works well with most any paint I choose to re-do my kitchen!
ReplyDeleteI love blue and love graniteware/the combination of the two had my heart at hello. What a true find. I still pick up pieces of anytype of granitware. I think it says Country to me. Great buy. Great post. Country Hugs, Sherry
ReplyDeleteIt is so pretty! I really love that color of blue.
ReplyDeleteBlue and white graniteware always looks good. I still have 2 cups and saucers I bought in Ontario when I was vacationing in high school! That was 30 years ago :) So, at least for me, blue and white have long-lasting appeal.
ReplyDeleteI bet the pendulum will swing back and it will come back in style. I love the coffee pot! Such a great shape.
ReplyDeleteHey Joan great finds! Who gives a rats rear if it's hot or not! We love junk and it's the hunt that is the best. You have been blessed with the eye to spy the best finds!!

Hey girly I think we were leaving comments on each others blogs at the same time. Indeed that is an ironstone platter and it is so heavy, I got it for $3.00! Wooo-Hoo!!

Oh, I love graniteware. That blue is fabulous. I'm so jealous that you found it at a thrift shop cheap.
ReplyDeleteLove your blue graniteware. My aunt has many pieces hanging in her kitchen--memories! Great deal.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THESE! Be still my heart! I collect them and display them at my river vacation home. Yours are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOK, OK.....so it's true....I have tons of this stuff.....and guess what? I used to be HOT HOT HOT too! I still like it....even though I'm NOT NOT NOT any longer!! :)
ReplyDeleteBlue & white is always sweet, never out of date IMHO!
ReplyDeleteHi Joan,
ReplyDeleteI love the blue and white graniteware...you found some awesome pieces! I just used a piece in my 4th of July tablescape. My decor doesn't lend itself to using a lot of it in my home, but I had to have at least one piece. I remember when it was very hot...that's about the time I bought the piece I had and I was thrilled to only pay $45...sounds like you got a great deal! I bet it will be hot again one day...just a matter of time. :-)
I have a small laddle but that is all. I, too, remember when it was so popular.
ReplyDeleteBet it will be again someday....
You obviously are reposting this from an earlier date, but you forgot to add a link to Blue Monday. Please do so that others can join in.
