A Little Touch of Black

I have a customer who has a future retailer for a daughter.

We'll call the daughter "Sarah". "Sarah" and I have had many decorating discussions over the years. When she grows up she says she is going to have a store called "A Little Touch of Black"

....because "Sarah" says with her 11 years of decorating wisdom that "Every room needs a little touch of black!"

This post is in honor of "Sarah".

Do you agree with "Sarah" that "Every room need a little touch of black"? Why?

  1. I totally agree with Sarah. Black is sexy & classy. That is why every room needs a touch.

  3. Can't say I disagree ;-)

Black vintage adds class, drama and character. It always makes me wonder what story it has to tell and who's hands have touched it over the years.

Aaah ... that reminds me ... tomorrow is yet another Black Vintage Friday. Time to take some piuctures!

  4. I like black. This blog made me think about my house and which rooms have a touch of black. My family room has more black than the others. But I have something black in most. Thanks for sharing and the future decorator is on to something:) Have a blessed day!

  5. "Sarah" is a wise woman. I agree, mostly b/c I adore good contrast in a room. So any dark/light combo will work, but I love my black dining table and chairs for just this reason.

  6. Never thought about it but yes, I think so. It adds class and elegance if added in the right places with the right items.

  13. What a smart -- and creative -- kid! Obviously wise beyond her years. And what great photos you've posted! I don't know if every room needs a touch of black -- I think it depends on individual tastes and style. I think for me, it might be more like a touch of red or orange.

  14. Hey Joan!
    Yes I am looking foreward to the Midwest Show. I agree, it has changed, over the years, I think for the better. It had to. I remember the first time I did Heart of Country, the promoter, Libby Kramer, was excited for me to come down, I was quite nervous, I told her, I had old Farm House stuff, and no 40,000 cupboards... She replied, we don't need another 40,000 cupboard, we need to be diverse... Julie and I cranked, at Heart, I miss Libby...She also put in her contract to all the dealers, 'Bears make money,and Bulls make money, pigs don't... She had a lot of guts...{ and was a very classy lady...}
The Midwest and Collectors Eye, are very good for each other, and this area, there is truly something for everyone. I never leave without some wonderful treasures!
I believe we must be diverse, and appreciate other's collections. Keep an open mind, and keep learning and growing. I always walk out of the show, knowing a little more, than I walked in with...

I re-read your comment, you were referring to 'Sandwich' changing... That I can't say, I have never attended... I think a lot of shows have changed, some for the good, others, not so much...Promoters have a lot to do with it, and dealers, as well. Times, they are a changin'.
    For the better!

How sweet [and great] that Sarah knows exactly what she wants. I wish I did.. hehe

So ... I love this bowl of black buttons!! Just my thing.
Have a great weekend. x Julie

  20. I do not have a touch of black in every room but I agree, it adds a bit of drama. Hmmm, I need to incorporate some black in every room. But my workroom is ALL black with some pink in it :) LOVE it!
