It is my favorite kind of sale.

In a 1940's Cape Cod house with a detached clapboard-sided garage.

Only locally advertised, run by the family with the long time owner in attendance.

With a basement with crocks, benches, worktables, and clothesline with clothespins. The "old time" basics of life.

Plus low attendance and a relaxed atmosphere.

I had blue Ball jars on my wish list. Their color is the "2010 Color of the Year."

The old basket was a surprise bonus.

I have had several of these over the years. They were meant for heavy duty work. The owner's son and Mr. Anything Goes Here carried all the jars to the car in it!!!!

What kind of sales or finds make your day?

  7. Church sales, and Farmers estate sales... why? BECAUSE THEY KEEP EVERYTHING! Then sell it super cheap to get rid of it. I got 2 big brass blade Emersons fans that the church bought in 1929 that STILL work! for less than $5, looks like you made out like a bandit!

  9. See, this is why people love basements or become hoarders. (Sorry, attics don't cut it with me, not climate controlled or as easy to get to.) I got rid of a bunch of my ball jars several years ago, just no room.

That basket is huge and looks to be in great condition, if it successfully carried 2 doz. glass jars! I'm impressed and jealous.

  17. Joan we would have a ball togther..pun intended. I came across an entire box of the blue babies at a yard sale back in 2002.
Not even the screw top but glass latch & when I asked how much & each she said 25...a bit crestfallen until she said...so $3.00 for all 12. Best Actress for Not Dancing & revealing how cheap her find was...yup me!!!
I still have 4, I actually have filled them over the years & given them away, including to my now 11 yr old Godson Grant..his filled with marbles.
    Congrats!!!
