Hats Away

I think this post covers all of the Thursday Blog Party topics.

I used thrifty hats, the rack is vintage, I did it myself and I had to transform a pile of hats to a "okay again" hat display.

It was a supposed to be easy "how to". It turned out not to be that easy.




This should be easy. Hats on a rack, right?



These thrift shop hats have been hanging on this thrift shop rack for at least 5 years until someone decided they wanted to try one on...then ALL the hats came tumbling down.



Recently I decided I to put them back up and post about how easy this display is to make. Ha. Don't try it with a camera on a bouncy old bed...



Use wire on the insides of the hats so you have something to keep the hats on the hooks. Don't start this project if you are hungry, tired, cranky, or impatient.




Pretend that they are all neatly lined up like you would do it, and just imagine how cute they would look over your bed, doorway, or on your front porch.

It's Good Being Green.

I am hooked on using "junk" in my garden....and I hope you are inspired.



Probably the most elegant item in my garden is this old stone estate flower basket. Those are antique grinding stones underneath it. I also use grinding stones as stepping stones in the flower beds.



Here's the totally other end of the elegance scale. What do you do with the "ball storage" basket after it's been smashed? Why of course, you plant it on a table in the middle of your greenery!



Somewhat behind this year? Still have empty pots and urns? Fill them with unplanted and uncovered topiary forms. Why, yes! Tell people you planned it that way...they'll never know the truth.




This is a border that keeps on giving. It predates our house by 80 years. Fifty feet of bridal veil that more than 100 years ago was the edge of a farmhouse garden. All it needs is a yearly trim, and it rewards us with this magnificent display.




Does anyone really know what time it is? Not with this thing. I have never known how to work it, but I think EVERY garden should have a sundial.




I guess it's time for me to get to work and plant something in this gem. Another local estate find, and probably the prettiest I've owned.

Dress Form Stripper

In her past life (even with her old black/gold fabric covering) she happily took part in a 50th high school reunion.



Then last Saturday morning I came into her life...



In a flash (almost, it did involve some tugging and pulling) off came her ugly outer layer...revealing her true inner beauty...




Now she's ready for a new simple, natural, striped down life.
