For our last Vintage Black Friday {I will miss this blog party} I want to share something unusual that I recently bought from the estate of a retired upholsterer.
It is tin and cone-shaped.
IT has a hole in the top and wonderful graphics.
Do you know what it is?
It is filled with tacks which professional upholsterers poured out into their mouths and then spit out to use tacking upholstery onto furniture.
Yikes! Makes me nervous. How about you?
Hi Joan, that is really a cool collectible... but YIKES! That scares me too! Bisous... Julie Marie

Holy cow! No thank-you to tacks in the mouth! Amazing the things people will do, isn't it? Fabulous cone, though...I love knowing the history of the things I collect--makes them so much more special!
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a lovely Thanksgiving!
That is a scary thought...but I do remember my mother reupholstering some of our furniture when I was growing up and she would always put the tacks in her mouth. I hadn't thought about that for years!

I had no idea what it was, but I really like it. I'm always drawn to things with writing on them.

Hi Joan,
ReplyDeleteI am all excited to participate in the Vintage Christmas Monday, but for the life of me I don't know where to get the html to add your button as a gadget. Does that make sense? I've never added anyone's button to my blog so I need help.

What an interesting find! Yikes! Tacks in the mouth certainly doesn't sound like a good idea since we teach our young children not to put small items in their mouths. Hope no one ever came along to pat the upholsterer on the back with a cheery good morning. HA! Wonder how many tacks were actually swallowed in those days and left to come out on their own. :) Blessings to you, Tammy
ReplyDeleteWonder how many of those tacks were swallowed, yikes!
ReplyDeleteThe cone thing is very cool looking however, I have no idea what it is.
I was gonna guess a megaphone... boy was I wrong:) Too painful, but a great collectible to use for something different. Have a blessed day!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting ~ I'm sorry I missed all Vintage Black Friday Party but I'm all ready for the Vintage Christmas Monday Party and stopped by to Thank You for adding me :) I got my blog all dressed for the Holiday and am excited for Monday. Thanks ~ Judi
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful - love the graphics! The thought of tacks in my mouth does give me pause, however1 Happy VBF!
ReplyDeleteEgaads, as long as they didn't inhale with their mouth, LOL
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous find!!!!
Hugs,
Marsha
