Couch Cover to Heart Ornament

This is a tale of a couch slipcover...

Bought by me many years ago at the thrift shop...

used for many years on the couch until another better thrifted slipcover came along...

thrown in the corner of our basement for at least 2 years~ REALLY!

put into black plastic bag for trash 2 days ago...

pulled out of trash bag yesterday by Mr. Anything Goes Here to put under snowblower to change the oil...

rescued again by me, cut up, and this morning getting a new lease on life by becoming ornaments.

I can see a use for almost anything! How about you? Do you have trouble throwing things away?

  1. Oh yeah, I have issues with holding on to everything... which is why my house is so chaotic right now!

    Love this sweet idea!

Thanks for joining me, my friend!

  2. Are you kidding me? Yeah, I have a problem getting rid of things, especially if they have some small iota of sentimental value!
Great rescue of that old slipcover. I especially like that little scrap of paper on there. Now there's a word you don't here every day: quixotic. I think we all need to use that word at least once a day!
    Quixotically,

  3. Oh my goodness..yes!!! The older I get the harder it is to throw things away!! I am about one step away from my family calling that show Hoarders and scheduling an intervention!!!
Now if I could do what you did and create something so lovely then I may be cured!!!
    Happy Repurposing!!

  4. Hi Joan, oooh I am soo happy you rescued that! Your ornaments are adorable!!! I can't part with anything! My mama always told my daddy he was a "pack rat" he wouldn't part with anything either... I guess I inherited it! (She never got rid of things either though!) I am having BIG problems with blogger today... they had better FIX it by Vintage Christmas Monday!!! Sounds like alot of other ladies are having trouble as well... Bisous... Julie Marie

  5. Love what you did with this old slipcover--talk about a new lease on life! Becoming an ornament is such a better life than being under a lawn mower, I must say!

Our garage is FULL of things my husband and I can't seem to throw away...better get out their and scrounge for some similar treasures!

Hope you're having a lovely December day!

  6. This story was so funny and the end result is fabulous! Now I have to go look through all those clothes I just took out of my closet that are too dated for Goodwill.

  8. I am saving so many things for repurposing or recyclying/upcycling. I need to get crafting and creating with it all. I love that the slipover has been turned into beautiful ornaments. Fantastic idea! :) Blessings, Tammy

  9. A story with a happy ending! Do I have trouble throwing things away? You should see my craft room. It's scary! In fact I should do a post on the blog about my craft room.

  10. Your little tale was cute, Joan. I love the ornament. I really do love ornaments made out of fabric and I am working on some now. Not exactly basement/garage fabric...

  13. Honey, I have so much stuff, WAY TOO MUCH STUFF! I never even give Goodwill a chance. If I think I don't need it anymore, someone in my family does:) Love the ornament! Good job!

  14. Very cute ornament!! I really enjoyed reading about it's full life!
I definitely have trouble getting rid of things. When my family came to stay at the house last week for Thanksgiving it was horrible to try to find a space to stash all of my "stuff" that I keep in one of the bedrooms! But I could never get rid of it....I might need it for a project :-)

  15. The slipcover lives! Cute idea.

I save everything and anything. It is a disease. My guest room is filled with stuff and I really need to start sorting it better so that I can fit some guests in there.

  16. You amaze me with the ideas you come up with. I have trouble getting rid of sentimental, family things. However and old slipcover...would have been gone at my house. Cute ornament!

  17. What an interesting story about your slipcover. You came up with a great idea for its use. I am the other way round, I tend to not keep anything. I am not a pack rat, but I have a sister that keeps EVERYTHING.

  18. I'm in total agreement with you on this one...
Would much rather create my own surroundings from recycled elements or second hand stuff than go out and buy it new! Yes, there's new stuff around here, but it's things like this sweet ornament that make a house cozy, like a home.
    It's beautiful!

  19. I will hang on to stuff forever, THEN clean house and get rid of everything! Even stuff I wish I had kept! :(

    I'm trying to do better!

    Love the heart!! So precious!

  25. Love your story. I have a junking disorder! I binge and then purge when I see the piles of junk and feel guilty about buying...saving...not being as orderly as I should be. I am embarrased to say that there is a lineup of white plastic bags by my basement door from my recent purge. Since my trash man refuses to take more that 4 cans worth - the lineup goes down slowly which then contributes to relapses when I slit the bags open - pulling out all the great junk and saying "what was I thinking when I trashed this!" Don't think there is a cure for this and frankly will not be looking too hard for one!

  26. And this is the very reason I hate to toss anything. This little heart wouldn't be the same without that awesome save you did today.
