Vintage Christmas Monday~ Number 4

Here we go for another Vintage Christmas Monday.

The kugel below was my best and favorite vintage Christmas Estate Sale find this year.

I found it in a local basement...

Along with the antique ironstone cake stand underneath it.

The cake stand is small and the kugel is large! A winning combination!

{Kugels. What are kugels? They are heavy glass ornaments first made in Germany in the 1840's. First imported to the US in the 1880's.

They were suspended from the ceiling and were known as Friendship Balls. Later they morphed into the lighter weight Christmas tree ornaments.}

  2. Very nice finds at the estate sale.
I'm glad you told me what a kugel is because I would have had to "google a kugel."
    Have a wonderful Week!

  3. I send friendship balls back and forth to my grandsons in Ky. It is fun to fill with small items that remind us of each other. I purchased on ebay and had to buy 8 and did not know what to do with the other 6 but now I do! I will hang them on my victorian tree and call them kugel's!

  5. I think that Martha Stewart once did a feature on her show about Kugels. I hadn't thought about them again until I saw your post.

My post for this week is up. Thanks for hosting this fun event!

  6. Hello Joan, I love kugels and am always looking for them at the estate sales I attend... I had one in my hands once, and an elderly lady wanted it as it was like one she had many years before... I so wanted it too... but relented and let her buy it...I know she gave it a wonderful home... Thanks again for hosting this wonderful party... I will be sad to see it end soon... love to you... Bisous... Julie Marie

  36. Hi, Joan!
Thanks so much for being our hostess... with the mostest! I love your kugel ... it is incredibly beautiful. Do you have many? I have some "modern ones" ala Pottery Barn from a few years ago that I meant to hang from the ceiling ... but they keep ending up in baskets to add their shimmer to pinecones and bits.
I did a bit of an offbeat post this week ... hope you don't mind ...
Off to do a bit of visiting before heading out for the day!
Hugs and have a super week!
    Betty:)

  41. Joan I'm sorry - I completely zapped that it was Monday. The only thing I have on my blog are my wee vintage pegs that I've transformed into angels. I even missed the parent teacher meeting with my little ones teacher this morning. Well - I shall do better next week and enjoy visiting everyone's blogs anyway later on...

  42. Not sure if my first comment worked Joan but I was just apologising as I completely zapped that it was MOnday today at all. Everything, including the parent teacher meeting I was meant to have early this morning passed by. I am thrilled to have found out what a Kugel was and wish I could find one here. I will be sure to let you know if ever I do! They're gorgeous. Promise that next Monday I will be completely 'on the ball' as I had my post all planned already - so will have to transform it for next week. Take care and I'm off to read everyone's posts
