I need your help.... all of you silver experts visiting for Silver Sunday.
{You are looking at 40 years of tarnish}
Last week while Mr. Anything Goes Here and
I were purging things from the
kitchen, we found these stuffed in the back of a drawer.
{There are 6 matching sterling cherub teaspoons and 1 sterling Victorian lady tablespoon}
I want to sell them, but sterling silver is not my area of expertise as an antiques dealer.
Does anyone know what they might sell for, or tell me where I could find out?
If you don't want to leave information in the comments, please feel free to email me using the Email Button on my sidebar.
I thank you so much for your help. You guys are the BEST.

I wish I could help! I'm not a silver expert at all. I love the design on the handles - they're beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHi Joan...
ReplyDeleteOhhh...how very pretty! I love these ornate silver spoons...I love anything with cherubs!!! Sure wished that I could be of some help but my knowledge of silver is basically nil! You might get a good idea at what they may be worth on ebay...just a thought! I wish you the best in finding out, my friend! Thank you so much for sharing them with us today for Silver Sunday! They really are gorgeous!!!
Warmest winter wishes,
Chari @Happy To Design
Sorry, I've not seen those either, but they are precious! I would be hard pressed to sell them! Silver is only going up from here?
ReplyDeleteThey are very pretty and I am sure they will easily sell but I am sorry I do not have any info on them. Love the pattern, love cherubs!...Christine
ReplyDeleteMake a copy of them front and back on your copier. Even if the top doesn't completely close, it will copy. FAX a copy to Replacement Ltd....just google it. They will email back what it is and show pieces if they have any. You can get an idea there of the cost. Hope that helps.
ReplyDeleteYour spoons are spectacular, wish I could help with identifying them.....seems they should be something special! Thanks for being part of Silver Sunday....see you next week~

They are very pretty, but know nothing about them. CeeKay's suggestion sounds like a great idea.
ReplyDeleteHubby and I use google. Look at the markings/names on the back and/or google silverware with angles on them. Takes a little time and it's very useful.
ReplyDeleteDeb :)
I've sold sterling silverware recently for a friend on ebay. What do they say on the back? Can you make out the marks? If you know the maker, that can help you determine the value.
ReplyDeleteI wrote an article recently for ehow on sterling silverware from what I learned.

Now i'm intrigued! I love a mystery.
What gorgeous pieces!! Oh I just love them!!
ReplyDeleteThey are very pretty and I'm sure you will find out value and be able to sell them. Cool find!
ReplyDeleteLovely. I don't have a lot of expertise either but do find the stamp on back.
ReplyDeleteI just finished watching the whole Upstairs, Downstairs series on DVD & these remind me of how much work it all took. Yikes.
pip pip cheerio:)
Oh they are quite beautiful..best to examine for markings and then go to several internet sites that help identify. My son helped me identify most of my pieces just examining hallmarks and then going to those websites via google...Good luck..they are very pretty!
ReplyDeleteMiss Bloomers
Sorry I can't help identify them either but they are beautiful pieces! You shouldn't have any problem selling them.
ReplyDeleteJane
Sounds like nobody knows much about your question, even me! They are very pretty but I don't have a clue:) I would like to know the best product to clean silver if anyone knows that! Have a blessed day and hope you find the answer!
ReplyDeleteI wish I would find a stash like that in my kitchen. Very nice. The back of your spoons should have a hallmark. There could be several. Every sterling silver piece has one or more. Each mark tells a story. One is the silversmith, another the year it was made, the country etc. Google silver hallmarks. Once you narrow it down Google the information found. After that check out Ebay. Good luck and let us know what you find.
ReplyDeleteNancy
Sorry I can't help, but those are really unique - they might be worth more as antiques than in selling them for silver! Very very pretty!
ReplyDeleteThese look like Gorham Cherubs. Not sure of the proper name, but from what I can see without the hallmark, they have the look of quality Gorham sterling. If that is what these are you are looking at about $85.00 a spoon. Sea Witch
ReplyDeleteGorgeous spoons! no help here.
ReplyDeleteDebra
The detail on these spoons is the prettiest I've ever seen on vintage silverware....are you sure you want to sell them?
ReplyDeleteHappy SS!

Your spoons are gorgeous! This link contains many, many silver sources rich in info! Good luck...Kathy
ReplyDeleteWow! The only thing stashed in the back of my kitchen cabinets is old Tupperware from the 70's. I think that you should probably sell them for about 25 cents each...to me!
ReplyDeleteJust kidding...sorry..I'm tired :)
The suggestion for Replacements is a good one...
Make sure you let us know what you discover...they sure are pretty!
Very pretty, wish I could help you too.
ReplyDeleteSylvia
Oh my! Your spoons are just spectacular! I think you could go on-line with Replacements LTD and have a chance of identifying them...good luck,..they are so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGale
You sterling silver ware is worth lots of money, donot give it away.
ReplyDeleteI get US$1100 out of a plain but complete set of silver ware as a scrap value !!
SO find a dealer (an expert) that you trust and have them give you a price tag. Besides you had them for so long so why not wait a little longer to get a good opinion.
I see your lovely silver spoons ...and I 'll raise 40 more ...when i see these I cannot resist. I place them in glass and interesting containers all around the kitchen, they bring so much pleasure
ReplyDeleteI have found with sterling items I've tried to sell that most people buying sterling silver are buying it for scrap, not because it's old or beautiful. Of course if someone is collecting that pattern, they might be willing to shell out some money to obtain them. I had a breathtaking antique sterling silver teapot with all the hallmark bells and whistles and wasn't able to sell it for its real value, although when I reduced the price enough someone DID buy it for the scrap value. Your spoons are beautiful and hopefully someone will buy them who will appreciate them.
ReplyDeletethey are gorgeous! i don't know the pattern, i have checked many silver books from my library to identify different patterns.
ReplyDeletebeautiful - but afraid I can't help to value them - sorry
ReplyDeleteBeautiful set of spoons...I would imagine they are worth quite a bit. Maybe you should look for similar on ebay and see what they are selling for.
ReplyDeleteSusan
Gorgeous silver...me, I would keep it!
ReplyDeleteCeekay's advice on Replacements is what I'd do... they are very good and coming up with value on most any tableware vintage and discontinued!
ReplyDeletejust beautiful!
What a surprise!
ReplyDeleteIf I dig in the back of my drawers, the only thing I'm likely to get is tetanus!
annie
Those surely are pretty! You could try a store here called Beverly Bremer. She sells estate silver and seems to know just about everything. You might take pics and send or email or whatever. She has a store in Buckhead (in Atlanta). Good luck! Linda
ReplyDeleteDiddo to everything mentioned above.
ReplyDeleteGot a kick out of your peeves...I have some of the same. I'm a picture person and too many words makes my head swim.
Now I'm off to dig in the back of MY drawers and see if there are any treasures ;-)
The Spoons are so Beautiful ~ Tarnish & All..... Hope you get the info your looking for & a Great Price, whoever ends up with them will surely have a Treasure!
