The ad read..."One HUGE Kenosha Estate Sale"

If you've been around the block a few I get to be like "I'll believe it when I see it" about HUGE Estate Sales. I had seen the pictures on the web, however, so I had faith. My policy was shop close to home first so we had already been to two local sales and been home to unload twice before we took the 30 minute drive to Kenosha, Wisconsin.

I'm in one of the THREE garages now after buying from the front porch, yard, and all three floors of the Victorian house out front. My husband is taking my picture after his third trip to the car. He's trying out his new $15 garage sale camera.

Here's the nice Estate Sale conductor's husband waiting...

for me to put him to work. He's getting down my favorite purchase...a little white cabinet made with cheese box drawers (it is Wisconsin, after all) with bright red plastic knobs...

Laurie, the BOSS, is telling me that this is one of THREE houses that this guy owns full of stuff. That he had a store, it all got too much for him, and he got "behind the curve".

Winding down, paid up (No, that's not my husband. He is behind the camera.), and chatting about "How could this happen?'' All of us there know how...

" Okay, whatever, what did you buy?"
I hear you impatiently asking. I bought a midcentury metal porch chair, white Christmas tree, funky vintage desk lamp, alabaster lamp, pair of black 1950's folding chairs, the cheese box chest, white handmade child's stepback cupboard, 6 giant deco hinges, vintage Christmas ornaments, wire basket, vintage rosaries, outside faucet handles, big ironstone bowl, black metal candleholders, white industrial stool, heavy iron acorn thing, some cool 1940's plastic flowerpots, birdcage, bottles...I think that's it. I told my husband that it was too bad we didn't have the big truck. His response, a big moan...and a sigh of relief!

Out of clutter
find simplicity.

Out of discord
find harmony.

In the middle of difficulty

I like all the blue in the picture... blue skirts and shirts... since I wear a lot of it, too! :-)

Love the Einstein quote. He's a favorite of mine.

Glad you joined us for Blue Monday of which I hope yours is happy!

    Sheila :-)

  11. What a fantastic haul! I'm envious! I went to an amazing estate sale this weekend too. It was a doctor's 1955 mansion - pristine in condition and like a time capsule. I didn't see anything in the house newer than 1960. It wasn't full of bargains, but I found some fantastic stuff for my shop and will be posting pics of the house on my blog later this morning.

  12. Great haul! Thanks for sharing and Happy Blue Monday.

  13. I have a friend who would have felt she had died and gone to heaven... while her husband would probably have felt that he had died and gone to the other place. LOL. She loves garage sales and this one would have kept her busy all day! Happy Monday!

  14. All I can say is WOW! That's a lot of stuff.
I'm a sucker for tiny furniture, so I'm willing to bet I would have a conniption fit over the child's cupboard!

  15. Looks like a great estate sale..and it ounds like you found some great item! Happy Blue Monday ~ Susan

  16. Oh my, sounds like a great that I would have loved to been at! I didn't see any pictures of what you bought? Did I miss them or will you be sharing them at a later date?

  17. That was some estate sale. You sound delighted with your treasures. Thanks for sharing the day with us.

  18. Oh, these are the kind of sales I LOVE to find. My house is too full for another thing, tho, so I am staying away from garage sales.
You really got some fabulous 'stuff' and your hubby is a sweetie to take your photo buying things! :O)

  19. Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog! I soooo would have loved to have gone to this sale! It sounds amazing! Please show photos of your finds!

  20. Hi Joan, great pictures. Happy Blue Monday.

  21. Excellent! You found a fabulous sale! Would love to see the cabinet made of cheese box drawers - it sounds wonderful!

  22. Hi!!! Thanks for visiting me today. I too live minutes from Anthropologie. I visit and dream often, buying not quite as often.
I see you were in Kenosha at a huge sale and I never even heard about it. Dang!! We were going to pop in to the Kane County Flea Market or a couple of Auctions (Harvard and ???) but opted to stay home and work more on the house. I did see that you'll be at Grayslake in a couple of weeks - I'm going to make a note of that and try to make it there. You got some great items, I sure hope you take and share some photos. Hope you visit me again - always neat to meet another from Illinois.

  23. Hi
    Happy Blue Monday
I love all the photos ,Oh how I wish I could have tagged along .
It really all looks like so much fun.
    Have a fabulous week.
    Thank you for sharing.
    Happy Trails

  24. Oooh, you had a good day! I love your blog. I've added you to my favorites.

  25. Jealously drooling.
I do laugh at your intro though. Its true. So many large estate sales turn into "hey whatever crap we're too lazy to pull to the cub we'd like you to buy" sales. and you wonder about what you missed getting off the great sales track.
I can't wait to see the cheese crate cabinet sounds folk art fun.
    Congtars on the great haul.

  26. Sounds like quite a haul! Congrats on the bounty!! Terri xo

  27. Thanks for visiting..I just peeked and will be back..I love the cage!! What a fun time you have exploring and creating!

  28. Boy! how I wish I was with you on that shopping day! I bet you have some floats dont cha!!! Lucky lil thing you~ Hugs and smiles your way!

  29. Oh yeah...nice haul...does he even need to ask...I'm right there with ya...

  30. Hi sweetie!

First, thanks for droppin' by the yaya! Love your blog....sounds like you have a GREAT eye for all the best treasures!

Have a beautiful and creative week! xo...deb

  31. Hi Joan! Nice junk. Here's what I would have grabbed: The 2 milk glass urns and the wheeled table they are sitting on, the old birdcage behind your white cheese box cabinet(Swoon!),and at least one of those paint splattered stepping stools. Is that an old game board in the box behind you in the last photo? I would have grabbed that too. Please tell me you are going to the sales at the "behind the curve" guy's other houses! And ask your husband to take lots of photos at those too!

  32. Ohh I love this kind of sales! So many hidden treasures to discover!!! Great!
    Have a nice day!

  33. Felt I was right along there with you Joan! Estate Sales are known as Clearing Sales here in Australia, not as genteel a phrase as yours. I'd say you had one highly successful day out.
    Millie ^_^

  34. Looks like it was a great sale. And just think, we were driving right past Kenosha on our way back from Door County.

  35. Hello, I'm still making my Blue Monday visits. What a cute blue post!
    Bless You, Shirl

  38. Jaon,

I am totally JEALOUS.... wish State Farm would let me off anytime that I felt like it, but I would not be a team player then would I.

I will live these adventures through you.

  39. Kenosha and Racine are super treasure troves!
    Deb :)
