Vintage Christmas Monday~ Number5

This is part of my spun cotton Christmas ornament collection...

And a few other things.

Spun cotton Christmas ornaments were made in Germany.

The insides are like Q-tips. They have a painted coating sometimes glittered.

They need to be stored in a dry location. Moisture damages the coating.

And this little oil lamp was on my Grandmother's and my Mother's trees before it came to me.

It is my favorite childhood ornament.

This metal house is a Christmas tree light cover. Bought at an Estate Sale.

I will be hosting a one time only Vintage Valentine blog party so if you think you might be interested leave a comment and contact info, and I will be back to you. I haven't picked a date, but I have picked a theme~ Vintage Valentine Cards, of course. A Vintage Valentine Card Party!

Anyone want to take on coming up with a button? I made the same request last time and look what we got! If you want to try your hand at a button just be sure to include "Vintage Valentine Card Party" and my blog address: thepottingshed-anythinggoeshere.blogspot.com/

  11. This is a bit sad, because I remember broken spun cotton elves that my grandmother kept for a while before throwing out in the 1970s! Maybe they had got damp...

I haven't been able to join your Vintage Christmas, because I was organising my own Pause for Advent, but I would be interested in joining you for a Valentine's party! Thanks for your great ideas.

  20. Joan, I don't think I've ever seen cotton ornaments. They are beautiful and so unusual. The little oil lamp is dear. I have the original candle clips that my German grandmother used on her tree. I wanted to share them, but they don't show too well. It's special to have them though, just like I know your little oil lamp is dear to you.
    Merry, Merry! ~ Sarah

It's Monday morning here and I had my post up soon this morning :)
Still looks like I'm late again lol
I must say that I love your white tree with the vintage spun cotton ornaments. These are very hard to find here, also they are mostly coming from Germany. I recently started creating my own spun cotton ornaments. They will be vintage too one far away day he he.
We have got lot's of snow here lately and now our hopes are high that we are in for a white Christmas this year!
Wishing "Happy Holidays" to you and yours!

  35. Thanks Joan!!!! I will start keeping my eyes open for them! Usually stores won't sell metals that have been blessed. They will sell new ones "unblessed" for about a quarter each but I love the old ones you found! My daughter collects old holy cards so I can't steal hers!
Thanks for the quick answer! I have your post on my blog! Love it! Have a great day!

  42. Your white tree is so pretty and I just love your tiny lantern that holds so many memories for you. Sadly, I don't have any ornaments that have actually been handed down to me but I always like to imagine the stories behind the ones I buy at antique/thrift shops.

Thank you so much for including me in the Christmas Mondays festivities these past couple of weeks. It's been like a little treasure trove of great blogs to discover. I'll definitely be back to visit yours and others. Have a wonderful Christmas.

  45. Hi Joan, I'm just getting around to visiting. I had to throw my post together quickly at my mom's yesterday. We had a large family gathering that lasted much longer than I expected.

I've never seen anything like the spun cotton ornaments. The tree is a wonderfully fresh mix of colors.

I'm sure there are others who would like to try their hand at a Valentine button but if no one comes up with one by the time you are ready to spread the word let me know and we'll whip something up.

    Merry Christmas!
