If you are EASILY scared DON'T read this POST!

It started out good.... it was cheap or free.......... all very thrifty and vintage to boot.......NOW...........

this is my garage. Not a pretty picture. This is not a pretty post....

It is not about what I have redone. It is about what needs to be redone.

It is not about what I have fixed up. It is what I need to fix up...
there's money in those piles...I know it!

I have ALOT of work to do....{I see spider nests in there, don't you?}

And you can WATCH my progress.

It may be fun for you. For me, not so much...
.....this is the ugly underbelly of an antique dealer's life..

good intentions, not very good follow through...

But I am going to roll up my sleeves..... and get to work!

I like to work and paint outside and..... fall is coming to Northern Illinois...time is getting short...

Mr. Anything Goes Here wants at least ONE car in the garage over the winter. Boy, do I have my work cut out for me!

Ready?

After reading some of the comments, an additional confession:
The garage was CLEANED OUT before last winter. This is only THIS year's accumulation! Makes it even more of a YIKES, doesn't it?

If your not a follower and want to see how my "Lose the Piles" Project goes, I invite you to become a Follower and watch my progress>>>>>>>>Sign up right over there>>>>>>>I will be taking a break soon after 300 Followers for another Thank You Giveaway>>>>>>>

I need a better name for this project...any suggestions?

  1. Well, you do need a better name, but I haven't thought of one yet...

It does look quite exciting to me, but I can see that to you it's mainly daunting! Best of luck...

  2. As a fellow blogger who also has a hard time following through on ALL the projects I've envisioned myself doing, I had to sign up to Follow you and see how you do. :) Good luck!

  6. I know how you feel - I'm bad about piling up projects myself. I've got a broken coffee table and broken curio cabinet in the living room right now and broken shelf in DS's room. What's bad is they've been broke for a long time.

  7. I have piles too! Good luck, will watch with interest....

  15. I ain't skeered..not even those spider egg-ie things. Don't know how big the spiders get in Illinois, but here they can carry you off to their web if you don't go willingly!! Your garage looks a bit like junker's heaven to me...piles of wooden stuff and things that make you go H..MM.mmm. I'll be working in my barn soon, when the temp goes below 95! Things are sort of organized, but after a long hot summer, all the blue totes have icky tops & the sun has faded my Sharpie labels. Who knows what lurks....I'll be back often to see your progress! *elaine*

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm already a follower and I'm looking forward to all your transformations! It looks like you have some great pieces in your garage! I can't wait!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. WOW!!! Would I like to clear some of that out for you!!!!!

  18. I'm afraid that my garage is beginning to look a lot like yours. Do we have some kind of addiction? I wonder if Dr. Phil has ever done a show about craft hoarders?
You do have some great items waiting for a makeover, I can't wait to see some of the transformations.

  19. I feel your pain. I am trying to organize myself. Just think how great you will feel when it's finished. Good luck! Jennifer

sort and stack! that's the name of the game. Looks like you've done a pretty good job of that! :)
Car? in MY garage! NO WAY! It hasn't seen the garage in a couple of years now. But then again... I don't have a husband to please :)
Make a list of what projects you just HAVE to do, and start from there.
I am quite envious of all your stuff! Makes me want to go curb shopping.
Good Luck to you, and I will be back to see all those neat projects!

  23. Now I'm not feeling so bad about my 5 project pieces of furniture awaiting me and cluttering up my garage (all of which I purchased at least 4 months ago). I can't wait to see your transformations. This will get me motivated to work on my own!

  24. This is the time of year that I do my projects too, in the fall...some in the spring. Good luck.

  29. How about a "Transformed Treasures Blog A Thon"?

    ReplyDelete
  30. I do believe that name would be somewhat "alarmingly loose"! How about Dash the Trash? I can wait to see what happens to all of those great treasures. I am not an antique dealer, just an antique gatherer of unrelated items! I have a huge stash "mess" in my basement. I have taken pictures of many of the things as a "before" shot. I wonder when I will be taking my "afters"? If we would have to move, it would take me months to sort through it all. Good Luck and I will be watching.

  32. My garage is half way there but at least I can still squeeze my car in. Still, it is like Christmas when you begin to dig out the items you have stacked high and begin preparing them for your booth. I can't wait to see your progress. Sea Witch

Anyway I thought that might work. By the way I love the items you have. I would love to get my hand on some of that stuff and start working on them. That kind of stuff just gets me all worked up!! Just please don't get rid of anything.Remember one womans clutter is another womans dream job.

  37. How about the "junk-eautification metamorphisis" ? Yes, I know, corny...but I've been working on MY piles beyond exhaution and I'm not thinking clearly any more. Oh, and when were you in MY GARAGE taking all those pictures, because mine's that full too. oof

  44. Oh boy! Look at all those treasures!! I wish I could find a store in this area with half of what you are storing there! :o)
    Happy Monday!

  45. No suggestions on naming your project, but would it be rude to admit I keep looking at your pictures and think "Whew!"? LOL! Mine might be as numerous, but aren't as readily visible. (I am good at hiding what I don't want to see!)

  53. Can I come hang out in your pile. Mine's no fun. I am envious of your pile. I used to go 'Trashing' with a friend while I lived in Okinawa Japan. We would go after dark and when we saw a pile of bags and especially bigger stuff we would get so excited and yell out "PILE!!!". You keep going and forget what the hubby say's, he just doesn't get the adrenaline rush.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I'm not easily scared. Even though I'm not an antique dealer, mine garage is at least as scary or more so. : )

Looks like alot of fun stuff too. My hubby asked me last week if I bought any more chairs at goodwill---I said no---benches are not chairs.

  62. Oh gosh, we just did the same thing for the same reason. Most of my stuff wasn't as wonderful as yours, so it hit the sidewalk. The things I hung onto are much better organized... but still waiting.

This will be fun to watch :-)

  63. Oh what fun. I know you will enjoy it and I can't wait to see what you do with all that stuff. I wish I lived close to you! I'll follow along. I have enjoyed reading your blog thanks for the invite to follow.

  65. Good grief, Joan, I'd LOVE to come shopping in your garage! I can't wait to see some finished projects, there are many "diamonds" in that rough! Good luck, and thanks for linking up to Trash to Treasure tuesday. would you mind adding a link to REINVENTED to your post? (just one of those crazy requirement of a blog party :))
NOW I see why you need some paint!

  66. I had to laugh at your project piles of really good stuff. I was an antique dealer and I did much the same thing on a smaller scale. My addiction would fit in most boxes. PROJECTS what an ordeal. When I stopped doing antiques I gave my son all of the projects and he sold them for much less than what I dished out. LOL I didn't care. Good luck and get going girl.

    Hugs, Jeanne

    ReplyDelete
  67. Oh my, you've gotten lots of good advice and feedback.

I also have a garage full of stuff, and a small shed full too.
I will tell you what i just did.

i had a sale a few weekends ago. I picked out the things that did not seem as exciting to me as they did, and put them out for sale.
They became someone elses projects. This way, i have room to keep buying what looks to be the next fun and exciting thing to fix up and sell in my little store. (I would not recommend this part for you since the idea is to get the car in.) =0)

I participate in a special Friday each week, and it has put a bit of 'pressure' on me to get something done. A good thing.
Even if i do not finish the whole thing, i have set a goal for myself and am working on things. I usually show my next weeks project so i am committed to doing something.

I know there are other great posts for that kind of thing too.

Try to enjoy the process, one step at a time.

    Blessings,
    Barbara Jean

PS I'm with those who would love to take some of that off your hands! =0)
I also thought Get R Done was a great title for your project.

  77. haha! I love your finds!!! At least your treasures are visible...we still have boxes and boxes of our things from our military move here 5 years ago!

My poor hubby has diligently gone through them (without me...he insists, cuz I would tend to be sentimental and end up keeping more than getting rid of!) and has given or thrown away enough boxes to fit my car in... thank goodness, it's a mini cooper haha

He plans to continue in this seemingly daunting task...but I do appreciate that he's willing to sweat in the garage in this humid Georgia summer heat to accomplish the quest for space!

    Blessings & aloha!

  100. Looks like you have started sorting. That’s what I would do – pull it all out of the garage and sort like things together. Then take a good look and decide which items you know (deep down) that you just don’t have the time for and put on Craig’s list, yard sale, etc. It may be just two or three pieces, but every little bit helps. Take pics while you have your treasures out in the open. Before returning your items back to the garage, go through what you are keeping and pick a grouping and create an “assembly line” project. However you want to create that grouping is up to you. It could be you have a couple of pieces that need very little work before they are ready for display. Or you want to paint a few pieces the same color, or you have three of the same item & could line them up and bang them out. Maybe you have a good friend, and for a nice pot of tea and a stop at the deli she’ll spend the day with you and together you can turn out a few pieces? And last, (please don’t hate me!) make a promise to yourself that you won’t buy anything else until you move a certain amount of finished work out for display. A friend told me that you can’t go to heaven until you finish all your projects…I think we’ll have a lot of ladies who will be living to well over 100! :-) I too will be watching to see what you do with your treasures!

    ReplyDelete

  103. Oooh, I see some things in there that I wish I had! You do have your work cut out for you! (Now I don't feel so overwhelmed about my piles!) I don't have a name suggestion for you because when I look at your pictures all I can think is "Oh, wow. I'd never get that done!" Good luck! I will be watching your progress with great anticipation!
