Pot your Croquet Set ~ or what to do when your plants are dead!

I admit it...I stole this idea from another blogger. But, not just any old blogger ~ a blogger who is a friend of mine...not just a "blogger" friend...a real life friend...who lives very close to me....

AND I am going to show you EXACTLY where I stole it from...right here.

My croquet sets come from curbside shopping also...and notice that she has one end thingie...and I have one end thingie...but they aren't from the same set! Weird.

I so wanted to put something in this empty urn AND... had no ideas... forgot about it... and then right on my sidebar appeared.... inspiration!

I hope she doesn't mind. I will let you know if she does! I am going off to email her right now! {Update: She said, "Steal away, and be sure you blog about it." ~ not really, she was very nice about it!}

Linda's look so cute as a pair...I don't have that many croquet mallets, and I don't have a cute pair of urns by my front door like she does.

What do you do when faced with the "Empty Planter Dilemma"?

Actually I can see Linda's now.. twins..
To answer your question ... I used a large planter to hold my balcony umbrella. too bad the plant was still in it... cause now it IS dead.! They apparently don't like umbrellas sticking out of them. x Julie

  3. Great look. My empty planters end up behind the garden shed until I remember to buy something to put in them. Maybe I will have to rethink it all and see if I can find something fun like you girls did

  4. Hey Joan,
You are the Queen of Inspiration! What would we do without each other to learn from? Thank you for sharing, and I'll bet your friend will be flattered!

  7. Oh those look adorable! I hate empty planter syndrome... I am going today to buy some Indian corn, silk Autumn leaves, twig acorns, things like that to make a Fall display... I don't have any croquet sets... Bisous... Julie Marie

  9. that is the sweetest idea! I have crochet balls but not the mallets. I put the balls in a bowl and just dust them off once in a while..I really love them!! I wish we had interesting curb trash in our town. It appears that some Phantom goes around snatching the goods while everyone is asleep! ha!

  10. It has been so long since mine were played with that I am sure they would have grown roots by now had I done that!! Actually, I am not even sure I have a set anymore...but the fun my kids and I had with these things...or to go back even more, that I had as a kid!

  11. Good morning! You are so funny. I love your borrowed idea...and it is great. Not all of us visit 'every' blog so inspiration is inspiration and you gave credit that is all that matters. My idea is this...I don't have a croquet set but I have lots of old farm tools, broken handle shovels, etc...surely I could make a planter vignette of some type that does not include plants! There you go~! Have an awesome day! Hope it is cooler your way than mine (106)...where's the lemonade?

  13. What a great idea! I rarely have empty planter issues...summer flowers go right to mums. Sometimes I just throw in a bunch of basil seeds and let it grow crazy...the smell is heavenly.

  14. Fun! My problem has been less 'empty planter' than 'no planters left', so I have taken to planting up old boots and shoes... They make a slightly bizarre collection!

  15. What a great idea - don't ya just love borrowing? I think when I have an empty planter I stick Campanula in it cause I have lots to take from and it has a long blooming period.
I took/borrowed/stole an idea from my sister planting an old BBQ. Stuffed it as full as I could and I just love it. Later, to keep it easier after my surgery, I changed it to sedums but the effect is not as great - I miss it and think I'll tear it apart again.
